8 Days, Uganda Volcano Hiking Safari, Road Trip

Hike Sabinyo & Muhabura and Trek Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Hiking The Virunga Volcanoes & Trekking Gorillas in Uganda

The walking safari starts and ends with a southwestern Uganda road trip.

This Uganda Volcano Hiking Safari takes place in the mountainous southwestern corner of Uganda, in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Virunga mountains for seven nights. The Virunga Mountains are a chain of volcanoes along Rwanda’s northern border, The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Uganda. The mountain range consists of eight major volcanoes. Most are dormant, except Mount Nyiragongo 3,462 meters (11,358 ft) and Mount Nyamuragira 3,063 meters (10,049 ft), both located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The last eruption occurred as recently as 2006 and January 2010. Mount Karisimbi is the highest of the volcanoes at 4,507 meters (14,787 ft). The oldest of them is Mount Sabinyo, which rises 3,634 meters (11,923 ft.) above sea level. On this challenging safari trip, you’ll be hiking two of the mountains, and later in the itinerary, take it to the jungle to meet the magnificent mountain gorillas in Bwindi. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is equally challenging, but we relax the adventure marathon with a canoe ride on Lake Mutanda and a cultural community hike.
