A challenging Africa safari trip takes you hiking the famously dubbed “Mountains of The Moon,” Mount Stanley to Margherita peak. On this trip, you’ll be taken on a game drive through Uganda’s most famous savannah park to see Africa’s big and small animals that roam the plains, then lazily drive into the mountain rainforest at 7000 feet to meet the elusive mountain gorillas. With more holiday time on your trip, you’ll take a nature walk through the Bwindi jungle and feel the primeval forest’s eirie experience and meet the communities that occupied the forest before it was turned into a park, hike across scenic views that will leave you breathless. Near Bwindi on the border of Uganda and Rwanda are Sabinyo Volcano and Mgahinga National Park. The Walking safari also gives you the opportunity the hike up the extinct volcano at 3,669 m (12,037 ft) elevation. And also, trek the endangered golden monkeys in Mgahinga National Park.

We will process the trekking permits on your behalf from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

Please carry a pack of N95 Facemask and hand sanitizer with you. You’ll be required to have a negative PCR COVID-19 test certificate issued within 72 hours of your arrival in the country, and keep your mask on when with animals and people crowds. You’re are requested to adhere to COVID Operating procedures to keep you safe during your trip.

Day 1 — Arrival in Entebbe, Optional Activity

Arrive in Entebbe as per your international flights and transfer to Papyrus Guest House.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY

In the afternoon, depart your hotel at 14.30/15.00 hours by car and then local canoe boat to Mabamba Swamp, one of the best places for spotting the rare shoebill stork. Of course, some luck is needed, but rarely does one leave the swamp without seeing one. Many other water birds have chosen this area as their home, so birding is always exciting. Enjoy a relaxing sundowner on Lake Victoria and then return to the Guest House.

Day 2 — Drive Entebbe to Rwenzori NP

Day 3 — Trek Rwenzoris from Nyakalenga Through Mubuku and Muhoma River Trails

Day 4 — Transverse the bamboo zone and giant hearth zones.

Day 4 — Cross the bog to the Upper Big bog

 

  • You’ll spend the night at Bujuku Hut

Day 6 — Ascend to Scott-Elliot

 

  • You’ll sleep at Elena Hut
  • Meals include Breakfast (B), Lunch (L), and Dinner (D)



Day 7 — Ascend to Margherita peak in 3 hours, then down to Kitandara Hut

 

  • You’ll sleep at Kitandara HuT
  • Meals include Breakfast (B), Lunch (L), and Dinner (D)



Day 8 — A steep climb from the base of Mt Baker

  • You’ll spend a night at Guy Yeoman Hut
  • Meals include Breakfast (B), Lunch (L), and Dinner (D)



Day 9 — Descend to Nyakalenga, Transfer to QENP, Afternoon Boat Safari on Kazinga Channel.

  • You’ll spend a night at Kasenyi Safari Lodge
  • Meals include Breakfast (B), Lunch (L), and Dinner (D)



Day 10 — Chimpanzee Trekking and Game Drive.

 

  • You’ll spend a night at Kasenyi Safari Lodge

Day 11 — Tree Climbing Lions, Transfer to Bwindi, Buhoma Sector

 

  • You’ll spend a night at Mahogany Springs

Day 12 — Hike Across Bwindi, Buhoma to Nkuringo, Kashasha Trail

 

  • You’ll spend a night at Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge

Day 13 — Early Morning Gorilla Trekking

 

  • You’ll spend a night at Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge

Day 14 — Community Walk & Lake Mutanda Canoeing

 

  • You’ll spend a night at Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge

Day 15 — Hiking Mount Sabinyo 3,669 m (12,037 ft)

Day 8 — Transfer to Kigali-Rwanda for your flight

 

  • No Accommodation, but depending on your departure flight, the possibility of booking a day-use or overnight room at Papyrus Guest House could be considered. Kindly note that we recommend booking only night flights or overnight in Entebbe to be on the safe side.

    Please make sure you have your facemask on when in contact with animals, especially the endangered creatures. Without a negative PCR Covid Test, you’ll not be allowed into the country. You’ll spend most of your time in open spaces away from human crowds, with that there’s minimal to no infections of the COVID virus.


    Flexible booking terms

    Your booking can be extended up to 12 months ahead with no extra fees, in case of any emergency (based on accommodation availability). Reservations are accepted after we receive a 30% deposit on the trip and the full payment for gorilla tracking and chimp tracking permits for each tour participant.
